When we ported BASIC to the Pokitto, we wanted to be able to support both C and BASIC program development and allow users to easily switch back and forth. To do that we modified our C IDE to be able to use the BASIC firmware for setup and a number of firmware built in routines.

I was really intrigued by the NXP LPC800-DIP product. The fact that it came in an 8051 40pin DIP formfactor (FF) got me hooked. I had purchased two 8051 dev boards and acquired 3 OEM boards through out the years. The 8051 is/was a workhorse. I noticed some (PS2)keyboard to ascii products that use a smaller version [pin count] of the 8051.
We were tasked with checking the high end of the industrial temperature range (85 C) for some of the components we used. Left over from some prior temperature testing was a cheap toaster oven picked up a WalMart became the platform of choice.
We were introduced to the Pokitto by NXP and were asked if we would be interested in porting our BASIC to it. We are always interested in inspiring the next generation of engineers, so we happily complied.
I've been doing measurements on my heating system for about the last month. We are a couple days into spring, but still have snow expected this week, though this might be the last winter storm. So its a good time to look at the almost 35 days of data, which will tell about what to expect for the power supply and battery backup of the web enabled thermostat being designed.
